The Independent on MSNNetflix confirms using AI to help make ‘better and cheaper’ films and TV showsNetflix has used generative AI in one of its shows for the first time in a move to help make “cheaper” and “better” films and TV series.
Netflix has used generative artificial intelligence (AI) to create visual effects in an original TV series for the first time, co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed.
Netflix admitted to using generative AI in one of its TV shows, but only after it became widely popular - here's why that's a problem.
Netflix’s new show, The Eternaut, has become the latest hot topic in the entertainment industry when it comes to generative AI.
Netflix shared that its show The Eternaut used generative AI to create a VFX shot during its latest earnings call.
Surprisingly, Sarandos said the company already did it, on an Argentinian sci-fi show called El Eternauta, a graphic-novel adaptation known as The Eternaut in English-speaking markets. For a scene showing a building collapsing in Buenos Aires, Netflix's tech team worked with the filmmakers to generate AI footage that was used as final footage.
"Using AI powered tools, they were able to achieve an amazing result with remarkable speed," Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said in a July 17 earnings call. He was referring to the recent Argentinian Netflix original The Eternaut, which includes a scene with AI-generated visual effects showing a building in Buenos Aires collapsing.
The streaming giant’s co-CEO told financial analysts that artificial intelligence tools are expanding creativity.
