Texas' defense ranked 36th in the nation in yards allowed per game, but now the Longhorns are turning back the clock and bringing back Will Muschamp to run that side of the ball.

Will Muschamp is back running an SEC defense, and it will be back at Texas, where his head coaching career was originally supposed to begin.

Texas A&M defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson is a target for new K-State coach Collin Klein to be the team's next defensive coordinator.

Texas has a new defensive coordinator ahead of its Dec. 31 Citrus Bowl matchup against Michigan. Head coach Steve Sarkisian announced Thursday that the Longhorns have fired defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and defensive pass game coordinator Duane Akina while hiring veteran Will Muschamp as defensive coordinator.

Klein has been allowed by Kansas State to finish out his duties as offensive coordinator with the Aggies through the entirety of the program's College Football Playoff run which begins Saturday at Kyle Field against No. 10 seed Miami. The winner will face No. 2 seed Ohio State in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic Dec. 31.
