Storms moved through the Tri-State Area on Friday, causing damage, as parts of the region experienced record heat. They brought lightning, strong winds and more. Staten Island was hit especially hard. During the height of the storm, more than 20,000 homes across the borough were without power.
Dangerous storms targeted numerous states on Tuesday afternoon, prompting immediate warnings for people to seek shelter.
The blast of heat prompted advisories across much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and in Southern New Hampshire and Maine.
On Sunday, the better chance for storms is earlier in the day, with a gradual drying trend from north to south during the afternoon. The severe potential also looks lower compared to Saturday.
We checked with the FAA and there was a ground stop for departures to Bush Airport that lasts through 6:30 p.m. A check of the radar shows storms in north Houston around the airport. If you have a flight, your best bet is to contact your airline.
A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for the Chicago area as severe storms roll through, which also caused problems at O'Hare and Midway airports.
