SEPTA bus, trolley and subway operators in Philadelphia have been working without a contract since last Thursday.

Transit services in Philadelphia will run normally Monday as negotiators for SEPTA and the union continue talks.

Bus, trolley, and transit operators in the city are currently working without a contract. The last contract expired at midnight on Thursday, but union workers held off on a strike as both sides decided to continue negotiations. Meanwhile, on Friday, the union representing suburban transit workers formally voted to authorize a work stoppage.

If no deal can be made before midnight on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, the union that represents about 5,300 SEPTA employees plans to hit the picket lines.

Leaders of SEPTA’s largest employee union, Transport Workers Local 234, and the transit agency’s management agreed Thursday to keep negotiating even as the current contract was set to expire early Friday morning,

SEPTA and the Transport Workers Union Local 234 will continue negotiations on a new contract after making progress at the bargaining table. Union workers opted not to strike Friday despite having previously authorized one.

SEPTA’s 5,000 drivers, cashiers and maintenance workers are still on the job despite their contract expiring Thursday night. But after a Friday bargaining session in Old City, there is still no new contract.

SEPTA and union workers are negotiating, and the two sides are reporting there will be no strike at midnight, due to progress made in negotiations.
