John Deere said the Ottumwa plant currently employs around 575 workers. In 2024, many workers for the agriculture company across the state were laid off, including locations in Des Moines, Ankeny, Waterloo, Urbandale, Davenport, Dubuque and Johnston. In 2024, over 1,600 Iowa John Deere employees were told they were going to be laid off.
