The federal judge said the NIH violated federal law by arbitrarily canceling more than $1 billion in research grants because of their perceived connection to DEI initiatives.

A federal judge Monday ordered the National Institutes of Health to restore grants that the agency cut based on gender ideology or diversity, equity and inclusion, calling the move illegal.

U.S. District Judge William Young told the government on Monday that its perceived issues with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives does not give it a “license to discriminate.”
