At a rally on Thursday, Amendment 3 supporters said they expect legal challenges from Missouri legislators who oppose abortion. Planned Parenthood has already sued to overturn the state's abortion ban and other restrictions.

Missouri voters have not elected a Democrat to statewide office since 2018, but often support more progressive policies via initiative petition.

Missouri’s current law bans abortion with almost no exceptions and this amendment would allow abortion to about 24 weeks of pregnancy.
