The Election Commission of India published an extensive dataset on the Lok Sabha elections, highlighting a rise in voter participation and several other changes.

The six national parties bagged over 63 per cent share of the total valid votes polled in the Lok Sabha elections held this year.

Lok Sabha elections saw a decline in voter turnout, with women voters surpassing men, according to Election Commission data.

“As many as 64.64 crore voters exercised their franchise in the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year with women voters outnumbering men,” according to statistical data released by the Election Commission (EC) of India on Thursday (December 26, 2024.)

According to the EC report, more than 8,000 candidates contested elections this year as against 8,054 in 2019 and the number of nominations filed in 2024 stood at 12,459, as compared to 11,692 in 2019.

The data comes against the backdrop of allegations that there was fudging in figures of voter turnout in the Lok Sabha elections

As many as 86 per cent of the over 8,300 candidates who contested the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year lost their deposits.

Of the 642,139,275 votes cast through EVMs in 2024, 51.29% votes (329,361,948) were cast by men, 48.7% (312,764,269) by women, and 0.002% (13,058) by the third gender.
