President Donald Trump’s special envoy arrived in Israel to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, who has led the Trump administration’s efforts to wind down the nearly 22-month war and release hostages taken in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack that sparked the fighting, will arrive in Israel on Thursday for talks on the situation in Gaza.

It will be the first known visit in months for Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s lead on the cease-fire and hostage talks. Since his last trip, conditions in the enclave have worsened.

International airdrops of aid were continuing on Thursday, but many of the parcels were landing in areas that Palestinians have been told to evacuate.

Over 250 lorries carrying aid entered the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to the Israeli military, three days after it began increasing the flow of supplies into the embattled Palestinian territory amid an outcry over reports of imminent famine.

Israel’s decision to allow Gaza airdrops to resume comes with risks and high costs, and experts say it’s not enough to meet acute need amid a starvation crisis.
