Police Chief Eddie García is leaving the Dallas Police Department after more than three and a half years to become assistant city manager in Austin, two law enforcement officials told The Dallas Morning News.

Dallas police Chief Eddie García is retiring from the top law enforcement role in that city and will soon land at Austin City Hall as an assistant city manager overseeing public safety, the city of Austin confirmed to the American-Statesman.

DALLAS — Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia has told city officials that he plans to retire from law enforcement and appears to be in line to take a new position with the city of Austin, multiple sources told WFAA. The move means Garcia would be joining T.C. Broadnax, Dallas' former city manager who took the same role in Austin earlier this year.
