French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday Britain and France must work together to counter the world's many destabilising threats and protect Europe from "excessive dependencies" on the United States and China.

Macron’s three-day trip is the first state visit to the UK by a European Union head of state since Brexit and a symbol of the British government's desire to reset relations with the bloc after its withdrawal from the EU in 2020.

King Charles III highlighted the crucial bonds between the United Kingdom and France in the face of a “multitude of more complex threats,” as he welcomed President Emmanuel Macron for the first state visit by a European leader to his country since Brexit.
