The so-called atmospheric river will hit the San Francisco Bay area first, possibly dropping a month’s worth of rain in a few days, weather forecasters say. The system will then sink into Southern California, edging into North County late Tuesday night then hitting hard through Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day.

Many stores will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas, but some will remain open or have shortened hours f you need to pickup any last minute items.

Last-minute shoppers will need to move quickly this Christmas Eve. Some major retailers such as Costco, Walmart, Target and Aldi plan to close their doors early on Dec. 24.
