The winter solstice is on Sunday, Dec. 21, in the Northern Hemisphere and it occurs at 7:03 a.m. PT, according to the Griffith Observatory. The winter solstice marks the start of winter and the shortest day of the year with the fewest hours of daylight, according to the Smithsonian Science Education Center.
Prop. 50, which allows for the temporary gerrymander of California’s map of congressional districts, overwhelmingly passed with 64% voter approval. Spearheaded by Gov. Gavin Newsom, the measure aims to counter similar gerrymandering efforts in conservative states, such as Texas, at the president’s behest.
Last month, California’s Department of Motor Vehicles announced plans to revoke 17,000 commercial driver’s licenses issued to immigrants. The licenses were canceled, the DMV said, because they were set to expire after the time the migrants were legally allowed to remain in the U.S.
