Pakistani officials have welcomed the U.S. State Department's decision to designate the Balochistan Liberation Army as a foreign terrorist organization.

The Department of State is designating a Pakistani militia responsible for a series of public attacks as a terrorist group, less than two weeks after signing a trade deal with the national government.

The BLA, seeking independence for Pakistan's resource-rich Balochistan province, has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks over the years.
