The case against a former Georgia prosecutor accused of interfering with the police investigation into the 2020 killing of Ahmaud Arbery has taken a blow in the courtroom.

Jackie Johnson has been charged with violating her oath of office, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of hindering police as they investigated Arbery’s killing.

A jury watched video Wednesday of a police investigator telling the man who fatally shot Ahmaud Arbery that he wasn't being arrested soon after after he, his father and a neighbor had chased and killed the Black man after spotting him running in their neighborhood.

The one-time Georgia prosecutor accused of using her office to impede the investigation into Ahmaud Arbery’s killers is set to stand trial more than four years after the Black 26-year-old’s death fueled nationwide protests over racial injustice.

Attorneys clashed before a trial jury Tuesday over whether a former prosecutor abused her power to try to protect the men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery in the streets of a quiet Georgia neighborhood nearly five years ago.

A judge in Brunswick, Georgia, seated the jury Tuesday for the trial of former District Attorney Jackie Johnson.
