Two law firms targeted by President Donald Trump’s executive orders – Jenner & Block and Wilmer Hale – filed lawsuits Friday as the legal industry continues to grapple with the unprecedented attacks from the White House.
The firm saw profits per equity partner jump nearly 16% in 2024. Managing partner Bill Malley said he is “optimistic” about the coming year’s performance.
Two amicus briefs were submitted in support of Perkins Coie, one from 11 legal advocacy organizations, including the ACLU, and a second from past presidents of the D.C. Bar.
“The executive order unconstitutionally retaliates against Perkins Coie for its constitutionally protected advocacy.” Both the speech and petition clauses of the First Amendment protect the firm’s legal advocacy on behalf of its clients, and prohibit the Trump administration from punishing advocacy it disapproves.
