WEBThe XM4 are great sounding earbuds and served me well for a long time. But for my ears, they were insanely uncomfortable for listening sessions longer than an hour, and even that was stretching it. Probably the least comfortable set of buds I've ever owned. The XM5 have better sound quality.

For what it's worth, I have the WH1000XM3 and I have had sweated with them multiple times, and been caught in the rain on my tractor (no cabin) multiple times with no issues at all. It's why I haven't upgraded to the XM4s yet.

If you plug in the cable, you're no longer using the Bluetooth connection, but the mic in the headset still works, so does the noise canceling. In fact the noise reduction seems even better in my experience. But, the sound quality via cable is not quite as good as without.
